Meet Pumbaa and Oscar: The Best Dynamic Duo!
Meet Pumbaa and Oscar, the cutest dynamic duo who are attached at the hip.
Pumbaa is a nine-year-old female Wheaten terrier. She loves to go to the dog park and play with other dogs. She’s a social butterfly.
Oscar is her brother who was rescued by our family three years ago from an abusive household. We weren’t told much about his past family but we know he is Turkish and believe he is a six-year-old Yorkshire terrier. His Turkish name is Askim but he goes by many nicknames like chewy, Chewbacca and mainly Oscar.
Oscar was slow to warm up to us but now that he’s comfortable he walks with some pep in his step. He loves to be outside and you can always catch him sunbathing on the back porch. He is obsessed with Pumbaa and refuses to leave her side.
Pumbaa and Oscar have become the best of friends and spend almost every moment with each other. Together they are a dynamic duo, double trouble and besties for life.

Language barriers cannot only affect human-to-human interactions but also have an impact on how our pets understand us. In Oscar’s case, when he was first adopted he had trouble understanding common commands like sit or stay. It wasn’t until his new family got more information and learned about his Turkish background that they thought a language barrier could be the problem. After that common Turkish commands such as, “Oturup,” meaning “sit,” or, “kalmak,” meaning “stay,” became a part of everyday life.
For each Woof of the Week who comes from a different background we will be translating parts of the article to their native language. Culture shock isn’t just for humans and at Wise Woofs, we recognize that it’s hard to adjust – just like we always say, one size doesn’t fit all.
